Odds and Ends

It’s been an eon since I’ve done any blogging. I am SO sorry. I’ve actually been writing a lot (who am I?), and, y’all, I finished something.

That’s right, a few days after my 2020 year in review post, I completed a full-length contemporary romance (!!!). Then I spent January revising it before querying agents. ICYMI, I ended up signing with the incredible Sarah Younger at Nancy Yost Literary Agency.

Now, publishing moves with the same approximate speed of a cold turtle, so it may be months before I have news–if I ever even have good news. But when I was gathering manuscripts together for Sarah to take a look at it, it was a lot. I just have so many fragments of stories and made-up couples and ideas, and for the first time in a long time, I feel…hopeful about my writing. My fingers and toes are crossed that other people will feel the same way and I can share them with you at some point.

In more tangible news, all three of the Easy Part books are on sale for 99 cents! As a reminder, these are my Obama-era political romances and they feel very optimistic–maybe too optimistic–about government. But I love these fictional people and their fictional struggles toward love, and I’m delighted that you can get them at a deeply discounted price if you are so inclined.

I have no idea how long the sale will last, so if you want these books for cheap, act fast! They do not need to be read in order as the series is pretty loosely connected.

Housekeeping Notes

  • The authors from He’s Come Undone will be day drinking with Molly O’Keefe on her Facebook page on Monday at 4 pm EST. We’re going to donate to the Black Mental Health Alliance for each comment, so come join us and sip on Unravelers, and we’ll give a lot of money to a good cause!
  • After my big podcasts post back in March (OMG, remember March?), I appeared on another episode of Shelf Love talking about myths about romance. Specifically, I make the argument that romances are well written. It’s an all-around great episode, and you should listen.
  • Lastly, I’m now unagented. This reflects nothing about my former agent and everything about how I’m a dumpster fire disguised as a writer. I just need to power-cycle everything about how I work and my career and get myself back on track, and I needed a fresh start to do it.

Odds and Ends

  • I wrote a piece for the Perspectives blog at Open Ink Press about time, selfishness, and creativity.  A tiny taste: “In my more honest moments, I have come to suspect I like writing because it is selfish, because it is useless. So much of my day is about what I can do, what I can make. My writing isn’t—which is to say so far it hasn’t been—useful. This is extra. This is different. The beauty in this comes from what it is not.” You can read the whole thing here.
  • This is one of those things that doesn’t make a huge difference to readers, but I’m now represented by Deidre Knight at The Knight Agency. She’s lovely and excited about my writing, and I’m thrilled to be working with her. If you’re one of the few, the proud, the people who like my contemporaries, I’m working on new series. (Yay!) I won’t have any concrete news for a while, but the wheels are turning and all that.
  • I’m so excited about the trailer for Hidden Figures, and I know I’m doing branding right since approximately a dozen people either emailed or Tweeted to me about it. Genevieve and I are currently writing Star Crossed (Bev and Geri’s book); we’ll have news soon on our mailing list about it and…other things.
  • If you’re have a manuscript sitting around and need something to do with it, my local RWA chapter’s contest just opened. I can verify that the final round judges are impressive. Go forth and enter!
